I am a Minion. It's kind of funny how few people can be described by a single word, but this is mine. I assist, I enhance, I support and brainstorm to help those around me be the best that they can be.
This started with my wonderful job at Auntie's Bookstore as Assistant Children's Manager, where I found that little things like maintaining the book section, sorting & filing, and familiarizing myself with the basic structure of the section lead to greater opportunities, like educating teachers on new titles and discussing how they could be incorporated into lectures, coordinating author events, meeting publishing reps, and discussing changes to improve this amazingly imaginative corner of the store. (And fun things like dressing up as Curious George, Winnie the Pooh, Madeline, and Monster!)
From there I moved to Portland, interested in finishing my education so that I could be an editor. The great thing about being an editor is that they are total minions. They know the ins and outs of language, grammar, style and industry standards, which they use to form The Overlord's ideas and words into a publishable product that launches or continues her career. This vital part of the publishing process happens in the shadows, a behind-the-scenes helper that is inseparable from the project's success.
My current "minioning" duties include helping my friends with sewing projects and assisting veterinarians at my clinic job. I hope to someday minion for a real live author (instead of fixing typos and inconsistencies in my bookstore loot) now that my college days are over.
